The Swedish Maritime Administration's information about the Baltic sea gas leaks
News 2022-09-29
The Swedish Maritime Administration has sent out navigational warnings on Navtex and VHF that vessels should stay away from the area. There are also warnings issued for aircraft with a safety altitude of 1,000 meters.
Leaks from the Nordstream 1 and 2 gas pipelines have been detected at four locations in the Baltic Sea. There are two leaks in the Swedish economic zone and two leaks in the Danish economic zone.
The Swedish Maritime Administration has no information on the cause of the leaks. Our task in this situation:
- We are warning vessels in the area and asking them to keep a safe distance from the sites. It is a well-measured safety zone.
- Our job is to keep shipping safe. We do this by warning vessels that come too close to the locations of the leaks.
